Point your iPhone’s camera at any word and Worldictionary will instantly define and translate it. No need to manually type words or take pictures. This app will be your indispensable travel tool primed to give you translation on-the-go.

Attention
– Compatible with iPhone 4S/4/3GS and iPad 2/New iPad.
– Not recommended for iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 4th Gen. due to the camera’s inability to auto-focus.

  1. The instant “View and Translate” feature allows you to get instant translation simply by pointing your iPhone’s camera at a word you want to look up.
  2. Worldictionary recognizes and translates between 21 languages, ranging from: Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, Germany, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, Czech, Slovak, and Romanian. No need to type any words to look it up!
  3. To proceed with looking up additional words or knowing more about the usage of particular words, you can first snap a picture of the text and then point the word you want to look up in focus one by one.
  4. Optionally, you can select an image from your iPhone to get the translation immediately without typing words in.
  5. Worldictionary automatically saves your search records. You can even build your own word database to increase translation efficiency.
  6. Additionally provides anti-shake function to get better image quality.
  7. Provide Google/Wikipedia/YouTube Search
  8. Provide the translation of two adjacent words
  9. Support 21 languages for pronunciation(TTS).
  10. Provide sentence translation
  11. Support local dictionary(English-Chinese)
  12. Support Bing/Google translation engine

Please Note: Network connection is required.

Pros

  1. Really useful photograph to text & translation feature making this indispensable for oversea trips
  2. Live translation can be useful at certain time but I personally prefer the photograph method
  3. The voice playback is cool too to learn more about certain words or sentences

Cons

  1. I hope the developer can lower down the price and include in-app purchase for your desired languages instead
  2. Wishing for auto detection of the languages instead of manually setting what language you are trying to translate
  3. I hope there’s a iPad version of this application so that it can be in landscape mode with more space for the words
  4. I hope to have voice to text and translate feature too then this will be a killer app!
  5. You need to be online to translate which sometimes when you are overseas may not have that luxury
  6. Not recommended for iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 4th Gen. due to the camera’s inability to auto-focus.

Overall, this app is very important for people traveling overseas & students trying to learn a different languages but I do hope there’s a voice to translation method too and a lower price tag.
