The latest iPad had just arrived and the name is simply “The New iPad“.
The features list can be found in apple’s website
However, I’m going to list some of the best few that had been announced!
- The Retina display on the new iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution
- Dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics drives four times the pixels of iPad 2
- You still get up to 10 hours of power
- 5-megapixel iSight camera. Designed with advanced optics, it lets you shoot gorgeous photos and 1080p HD video.
- 4G network, It also works on GSM worldwide network technologies including HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA — the fastest 3G networks out there. You’ll see downlink speeds up to 42 Mbps with DC-HSDPA and up to 21.1 Mbps with HSPA+
- iPad as a personal hotspot
Weight is slightly heavier than the iPad 2 WIFI is 600g, iPad 2 WIFI+3G is 612g compared to “The New iPad” WIFI is 652g and the WIFI+3G is 662g.
However, I should point out it’s still lighter than the first generation iPad 1 WIFI (680g) and WIFI+3G (730g) so it’s somewhere in the middle weight.
For people who are used to iPad 2 probably won’t feel the weight difference.
“The New iPad” is also slightly thicker than iPad 2 (by 0.81mm) but thinner than iPad 1 (by 3.59mm) so the difference between iPad 2 & the new iPad is not noticeable however some casing may need to be changed.
If you are selling your iPad 2, do sell your casing too unless you are using the Apple’s smart casing that does not cover the back of the iPad.
Personally, for people who are holding on to iPad 1…and have sufficient disposable income…”The New iPad” will be a comfortable upgrade.
e-Bay will be a good place to look for 2nd hand iPad & iPad 2 and your local forums (e.g. hardwarezone.com.sg and etc)
Your local 3G plans also need to be updated to 4G if you are signing up one so do check if your 3G sim card contract is expired or not, do call your service provider for clarification.
Currently, according to Apple.com/sg…only Singtel & Starhub offer 4G internet connection in Singapore, again check with your local telco. if unsure.
Currently the price for “The new iPad” below is in USD and need to convert to SGD with GST.
Currently the preorder page is down so I can’t give you the exact SGD price yet but it should be back soon when the preorder traffic dies down a little in the next few days.
Personally, the name “The new iPad” is a little less desirable than normal as it can be confusing for search engine to find relevant information about it.
However, if you search with quotes on “The new iPad” it becomes much more easier to find but not all search engines are smart.
Overall, this is a must have for apple fans and it shall be pushing the limits of tablet computing to the next level.
